William G. Hurley

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 13, at St Rose Cemetery for William G. Hurley, 76, of Chicago, Ill. He died on May 17 in Chicago and was cremated.

A former resident of Fairfield, Mr Hurley will be buried in the Hurley family plot in the cemetery in Sandy Hook.

Mr Hurley was a World War II veteran. He earned a degree in journalism from the University of Missouri and was a freelance writer. He also worked for two major newspapers in Chicago. He earned a master’s degree from New York University, where he taught English. A world traveler, he lived and worked in France, Sweden, Vietnam, and Turkey.

He is survived by two sisters, Chris McNally and Jean Bernhart, and a brother, Richard Hurley. He and his former wife, Linda, had one child who died in infancy.
