Beatrice ‘Beebe’ (Shayne) Cook

Beatrice “Beebe” (Shayne) Cook, 88, formerly of Danbury Commons, died March 7 at Ashlar of Newtown. She was the wife of the late John S. Cook.

She was born April 24, 1916, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived most of her life in Bellrose, Long Island, and Danbury, with her husband, John, who was an entertainer, singer, and comedian.

Mrs Cook was an accomplished professional dancer and in her late life worked as a nurse’s aide in the Danbury and Bethel area. She contributed to the war effort during World War II as an inspector of classified electronic equipment for the Department of the Navy, earning the Navy E for excellence.

Mrs Cook, known to her many friends at Danbury Commons as Beebe, wanted to make special mention of the “Commons” as a wonderful home where she enjoyed friendship, companionship, and good cheer from the residents. Also, a special appreciation for the professional attention provided by the Commons staff and in particular past manager Rose Watt. Mrs Cook will be missed by all.

Mrs Cook is survived by her nephews, Col Raymond Kaufman Jr (retired) of Litchfield, and William Kaufman of Bronx, N.Y.

She was predeceased by her elder sister, Doris Brock.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saint Peter Church, Friday, March 11, at 9 am.

Burial will follow in Saint James Cemetery, Haverhill, Mass. There are no calling hours.

The Green Funeral Home, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
