McCarthy To Critique At Next SCAN Meeting

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will be having an instructional critique of members’ work by Marija McCarthy at its next meeting, on Wednesday September 26, at 1:30 pm. The meeting will be at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole). The program is free and open to the public.

Ms McCarthy is an interpretive realist who works in oil and watercolor. She trained as a painter in her native Yugoslavia at the Academy of Fine Art in Belgrade and at the Corcoran School of Art and George Washington University. She has lived and painted in Europe, Asia and North Africa, as well as the United States. She currently lives in Woodbury.

Marija McCarthy is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and an artist member of The Copley Society of Boston and New Haven Paint and Clay Club. She has been featured in Watercolor (Spring 1996), American Artist (May 1990) and in Best of Watercolor (Rockport Publishers, 1995).

She teaches painting for Washington Art Association and at Flanders Nature Center in Woodbury. Her paintings are in hundreds of private collections around the world, as well as in museums and government collections in Yugoslavia, Pakistan, Tunisia and Palestine.
