Fundraising efforts to preserve Cherry Grove Farm are well underway and the clock is ticking to meet a goal of $600,000 by January 15 in order for the NFA to purchase a portion of the farm. There is still time donate funds to help preserve this special part of Newtown history.
Parking is available at the farm,70 Platts Hill Road, at the intersection of Platts Hill, Palestine, and Hundred Acres Roads.
Cherry Grove Farm, a Newtown landmark with origins dating back to 1912, was recently sold to a local developer. The 45-acre farm parcel is a collection of meadows, streams, and forestland. Concerned with expansive development, the NFA reached an agreement to save and preserve a majority of the farm.
The terms of agreement allow the NFA to purchase 30 acres of farmland for $600,000. The challenge is that there are only four more weeks to raise necessary funds. If NFA does not succeed in its efforts, then the full parcel will be developed.
