Thankful For Rosenthal’s Efforts

To the Editor:

In reading last week’s Bee article concerning First Selectman Rosenthal’s personal off duty inspection of conditions on Butterfield Road, I was reminded of his similar efforts on behalf of myself and two neighbors.

This past year we had been involved with the Newtown Department of Public Works in an attempt to obtain a catch basin in order to alleviate road flooding at the corner of Driftway Drive and Dinglebrook Lane. Selectman Rosenthal remained in contact through our negotiations with the town engineer and Public Works Department to insure that our interests in land erosion, traffic safety and town interests were satisfied. His efforts included several weekend visits and numerous telephone calls. What impressed us most were the telephone calls long after completion to insure that the basin was meeting the safety conditions desired.

The success of his efforts was only too evident during the recent September monsoons.

We are thankful for his desire to better conditions for the citizens of Newtown. Such responsible actions on the part of an elected public official give the answer as to why he so deservedly runs without opposition.

Yours truly,

Gerald J. Finnegan
