On January 3, a person turned over to police for safekeeping an iPod-brand portable music player which had been found at the intersection of Parmalee Hill Road and Currituck Road.

The owner of the device may claim it by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Washington Avenue

A two-car accident occurred on Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook about 2 pm January 3.

Westbound motorist Dana Metzger, 17, of 9 Sweet Meadow Road, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, slowed for traffic conditions, police report.

Westbound motorist Bethany Morin, 26, of 19 Dodgingtown Road, who was driving a 1997 Saturn SL-1 sedan, then struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Morin for following too closely.

South Main Collision

About 7 am January 3, a two-car collision took place at the intersection of South Main Street and Park Lane.

Motorist Terence Nelan, 36, of 28 Greenbriar Lane, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Impreza, stopped at the end of Park Lane, at its intersection with South Main Street, in preparing to turn left onto northbound South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Daniel Monroe, 60, of 12 Parmalee Hill Road was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima southward on South Main Street, police added.

As the Subaru made the left turn, it collided with the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Nelan an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Berkshire Road

Motorist Cheryl Ann Buttery, 41, of 69 Alpine Drive, who was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester eastward near 15 Berkshire Road about 7:20 am January 3, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Eastbound motorist Christopher Salvatore, 17, of 59 Buttonball Drive, who was driving a 1991 Honda Civic, then struck the Subaru from behind, according to police. There were no injuries. Police issued Salvatore a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

SUV Vs Minivan

At about 9 am December 27, eastbound motorist Lori Kwan, 34, of 19 Old Green Road, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped and was waiting in the proper travel lane to make a left turn onto Walnut Tree Hill Road, according to police.

Eastbound motorist Geovanni Pesantez, 35, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, then struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Pesantez received a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Case

On the evening of January 3, police arrested Ryan J. Briggs, 22, of Norwalk on a warrant, charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, and failure to have a working headlamp.

The motor vehicle charges stem from a November 2005 incident, police said. After he posted $7,500 bail, police released Briggs for a January 18 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

About 11:40 pm January 3, motorist John R. Rafter, III, 22, of Irvine, Calif., had a motor vehicle accident at 20 Sugar Street, in which he drove a vehicle into a flower bed, police said. After giving Rafter field sobriety tests, police charged him with driving under the influence.

Rafter was released on $200 bail for a January 18 court appearance.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Katelyn Letteri, 20, of Stamford went to the police station on the afternoon of January 4 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and with driving too slowly.

The motor vehicle charges stem from an incident last August in the borough. After posting $1,000 bail, police released Letteri for a January 25 court appearance.

Botsford DUI

Police said they received a report of a vehicle that was off the road at about 3:45 am January 6 on South Main Street, near Bear Hills Road, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they spotted a 1996 Honda Accord that was partially off South Main Street’s northbound road shoulder. Police said they found motorist Aaron Byrd, 20, of Ansonia asleep in the driver’s seat with the auto’s engine running.

After investigating, police charged Byrd with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Ambulance volunteers and Botsford firefighters went to the scene. Byrd was not injured.

After he posted $100 bail, police released Byrd for a January 18 court appearance.

Glover Avenue DUI

Police report that at about 3:15 am on January 7, they spotted motorist Maria Carrillo, 45, of Danbury driving northward on South Main Street.

According to police, Carrillo crossed the road’s center line, struck some curbing, and made an abrupt right turn. Police aid they stopped Carrillo on Glover Avenue to investigate, after which they charged her with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After she posted $100 bail, police released her for a January 23 court appearance.

DUI Lodged

At about 12:45 am January 7, police stopped motorist Michael Mahoney, 18, of Stamford on Church Hill Road to investigate.

After giving him field sobriety tests, police charged Mahoney with driving under the influence, with failure to obey road signs and markings, and with a turn signal violation.

After posting $100 bail, Mahoney was released for a January 24 court appearance.

 

Toddy Hill Crash

About 10:20 pm January 5, motorist Daniel Melfi, 20, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Maxima sedan southward near 159 Toddy Hill Road, slowed to negotiate a curve in the road, but lost control of the auto and struck a rock alongside the southbound road shoulder, police said. 

The Nissan became stuck atop that rock. Melfi was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Honda Vs Deer

About 5 pm December 31, motorist Kevin Madigan, 43, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2006 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck southward near 27 Glen Road, encountered a deer that had entered the road, police said. The deer and the truck collided. Madigan was not injured.

Saab Sedan

Motorist Mali Schneider, 19, of 4 Meadow Road was driving a 1997 Saab 90-S sedan southward near 139 Toddy Hill Road about 10:50 pm January 5, when she lost control of the auto and drifted into the northbound lane, police said. Schneider tried to regain control, but the vehicle went into a spin and struck an embankment on the right road shoulder, police said.

Neither Schneider, nor two passengers, were injured. Police issued Schneider a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and South Main Street about 7:50 am January 5.

Motorist Mary Ann McAuliffe, 35, of Oxford, who was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Golf sedan, stopped and was waiting at a red traffic signal on westbound Mile Hill Road to make a right turn onto northbound South Main Street, according to police.

At that time, motorist Marek Wojenski, 35, of Stratford was driving a 1998 Mazda Protégé sedan northward on South Main Street and was approaching a green traffic signal, police said.

As the Volkswagen attempted to make the right turn, the two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued McAuliffe an infraction for a moving violation.

I-84 Buick

State police said motorist Katherine Aiello, 16, of 16 Crabapple Lane, who was driving a 1994 Buick auto on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp at about 5:15 pm January 5, lost control of the vehicle and struck some guardrailing.

Aiello was not injured. State police said Aiello was traveling too fast for conditions.

Highway Collision

State police report a two-vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 1:51 pm January 4.

State police said motorist Robert Guerrera, 57, of Watertown, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai, had stopped for traffic conditions, as had motorist Susan Glasman, 43, of Stamford, who was driving a 2003 GMC.

State police said Glasman’s foot slipped off the brake pedal and the GMC struck the Hyundai. There were no injuries. State police said Glasman was following too closely.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-car accident about 10:40 am January 9, at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

Motorist Jessie Ceccarelli, 76, of 10 Kaechele Drive, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala sedan, was traveling northward on Toddy Hill Road, and then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Berkshire Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Antonia Lombardo, 53, of 40 Cherry Street, who was driving a 1992 Subaru Legacy sedan, was heading eastward on Berkshire Road straight through the intersection, police said. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Ambulance volunteers transported Lombardo to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a pain complaint, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Warrant

On January 9, police served an arrest warrant against Joseph Pappas, 18, of Augusta, N.J., charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court. The arrest stems from an incident that occurred in 2005. Police released Pappas on $2,500 bail for a January 22 court appearance.
