Colonial Toys & Games At CHS
Colonial Toys & Games At CHS
HARTFORD â Connecticut Historical Society is offering weekend fun for families until the end of the year.
Visitors to the CHS museum will be able to try a variety of Colonial games, from table-top nine pins and Jacobâs ladders to making and decorating their own whirligigs.
The museum will be closed Christmas weekend. The programs are in conjunction to one of CHSâs current exhibitions, âTours and Detours Through Early Connecticut,â an award-winning exploration of rustic life in Connecticut more than 200 years ago. Following the trails of the stateâs early settlers, visitors can try on Colonial clothing of the period, experience the American Revolution through a descriptive sound and light gallery that evokes an in-the-moment sense of place and time, and more.
Family weekend events will continue in January, but their theme will change to Native American Games. In February the programs will continue, with Anansi Stories and West Indian Crafts, to correlate with the upcoming exhibition âChance, Choice & Change: Coming To Connecticut.â
The family events will run Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 4 pm and is included in regular museum admission of $6 for adults, and $3 for senior citizens, college students and children ages 6 to 17. Admission is free for ages five and under.
The museum, at One Elizabeth Street (at the corner of Asylum Avenue), can be reached by calling 860-236-5621.
