Game results from youth travel and recreation soccer from this past week are as follows:
Girls
U8
Wildcats 3, Team Three 1: The Wildcats were led by the strong defensive play of Colleen Phaneuf and Lindsay Gallagher. Offensively, the Cats were led by Jacquelyn Matthews who scored 2 goals and Kaley Meisenheimer who netted one goal. Hannah Groonell, Zoe Bogan, and Laura Augenbraun helped the Wildcats with strong all-around play.

Newtown Breeze 4, Old Greenwich 4: Newtown tied a well-matched Old Greenwich opponent in a key Southwest District matchup. For the Breeze, Marcella Daily, Natalie Kelchner, Mary Hufziger, and Cecilia Schoeni led the offense. Defensively, Newtown relied on Jacklin Gouveia and Erin Tressler.
Newtown Breeze 5, Ridgefield 1: In the final game of the season, key offensive players for Newtown were Rylee Mulligan, Ashley Santore, Cassidy Kortze, and Samantha Crespo. Sarah Houle led the defensive effort, while Greta Staubly, Savannah Mather, and Jessica Maturo played well. The Newtown Breezed finished the season with a 5-2-1 record.

Easton Redding United 2, Newtown Rangers 1: Chloe Rogalin scored Newtownâs only goal. Julia Sughrue made several key plays for Newtown at midfield. Stephanie Carr and Claire Beiter played aggressively on offense. Brianna MacDonald stopped some hard shots on goal. Brianna Lutz played tough defense.
Trumbull United Red 3, Newtown Rangers 0: Allessandra Manfredi dominated the defensive end throughout the game, constantly cutting off Trumbullâs offense. Emily Neave was a key player on offense and defense. Ashling Sugarman outmaneuvered Trumbull repeatedly at midfield. Alexandra Manoni and Mia Katsuleres were instrumental in moving the ball down the field for Newtown.

Lightning 2, Greenwich 0: Sarah Lynch was relentless on offense as she led repeated attacks on goal, and her efforts paid off when she netted the first score of the game. Amy Martinelli put in the second goal off a cross by Shelby Tolla. Cassie Fischer was a force in the midfield, while Megan Weber contributed strong play up front and Michelle Zarifis was quick and tough on defense. Andrea Rodriguez played an aggressive game in goal for the shutout. With this win in their last regular season game, the Lighting secured a spot in the Southwest District playoffs. The U13 girls will face Fairfield in the district semifinals, Saturday, November 14 at 9 am at Wilton High School.

U10
Net Rippers 3, Weston 0: The somewhat sleepy Net Rippers continued their shutout season with fabulous goaltending by the Slick Silas Decker and Awesome Adam Bergeron. Matt Gerbo scored two, and Matt Bucci had another goal. Kickinâ Connor Barrett and Ryan Brello brought their A games again, and Hunter Procaccini and Mark Hall were sharp in the backfield.
Net Rippers 4, Fairfield 0: Evan Eggleston and Harper brothers, Josh and Nick, ran the field with excellent passing and fancy footwork. Matt Booch-Bucci scored a hat-trick for the Rippers, and Matt Gerbo scored. Adam Bergeron left the goal to contribute his talents on the field, and the mighty Brendan OâHara took over in goal with fierceness and drive. Amazinâ Andy Greenwood, Mark Hall, and Connor Barrett were on fire.

Due to all the rain cancellations, the final weekend of the season turned into a four-game jamboree throughout Fairfield County for the U11 Spartansâ boysâ soccer team. Defenders Tiernan Keane, Ben Tuffy, and Jack Lavelle protected their goal with tenacity. Goaltending duties were shared by many, with clutch performances from Nathan Augenbraun and Theodore Silverman. The lightning speed and skills of Justin Gillespie, Luke Caplan, and Thomas Leuci set up loads of scoring opportunities. Throughout the course of the weekend, goals were scored by several players including Felix Summ, Matthew Tassiello, and three for scoring machine Zach Van de Weerdt. The powerhouse strength of Andrey Masser and Matt Guinee, along with the non-stop hustle and heart of Justin Cicarelli and Alex Hess, were key in the best games the Spartans have played all year.

Newtown Strikers 6, Weston Warriors 1: The Newtown Strikers finished at the top of their division in the Southwest District with the win over Weston. Blake Jarvis scored the first goal, and Josh Houle added a second during the first half. Liam McNicols added two goals in the second half, and Houle and Albert Dean each netted one. Kevin Finnegan was outstanding in goal, aided by a strong defensive team of Michael OâKeefe, Alex Gerbo, and James Carney. John Carlson, Robby Schreiber and Scott Martin fed the offense as the Strikers finished the regular season with a 7-1 record.
