High School Volleyball Team Wins Three

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) victory over visiting Bethel on September 19, then hosted and defeated New Milford 3-1 (19-.25, 25-11, 25-14, 25-16) on September 22, before blanking host Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) on September 24. With the wins, the Nighthawks improved to 5-2 overall.

Against Bethel, Alexa Reilly had five service aces; Kyle Dandrea compiled eight aces, 11 kills, and four digs; Molly McCoy had four aces; and Clara Whaley had four kills and three digs in the win.

In the New Milford match, Dandrea compiled 15 kills and five digs; Whaley had 14 kills and four digs; and Jamie Calandro had seven aces, six kills, and ten digs.

In the win at Kolbe, Dandrea logged 14 kills and 14 digs, and McCoy racked up 20 assists to go along with six aces.

After competing in the John Jay Jamboree on September 27, the Hawks return home to take on Masuk of Monroe on Monday, September 29, and Brookfield on Wednesday, October 1 — both at 6:30 pm.
