Workshop For Landowners, Saturday At Booth Library

Landowners of Newtown, along with Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Redding, and Ridgefield, are invited to a special “Landowner Workshop” to be presented Saturday, October 24, at C.H. Booth Library.

The workshop will focus on woodland management strategies, ways to protect some or all of your land from future development, and how to make your land more attractive to wildlife.

The program is open to the public, but space is limited. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling 203-938-8809. Light refreshments will be served beginning at 8:30 am, with the workshop commencing at 9 with welcoming remarks from Bill Toomey, the director of Highstead in Redding.

The morning will continue as follows:

*Larry Rousseau, a service forester with CT DEP-Forestry Division, will present “The Value of Private Forest Lands in Connecticut and Land Management Strategies” at 9 am;

*Tim Abbott, director of The Litchfield Hills Greenprint Project, will present “Land Conservation Options For Your Family Land” from 10 to 10:30; and

*At 10:45, Peter Picone, wildlife biologist for CT DEP-Wildlife Division will offer “Enhancing Habitat for Wildlife with Regional Habitat Needs in Mind.”

The workshop will end with a 30-minute question and answer session beginning at 11:30 with the guest speakers.

The workshop is sponsored by Fairfield County Regional Conservation Partnership, an informal collaboration of conservation organizations and municipal commissions dedicated to sustaining the region’s fields, forests, water, and wildlife habitat.

The partnership includes the Ridgefield Open Space Association (ROSA), Town of Ridgefield Conservation Commission, Land Conservancy of Ridgefield, The Land Trust of Danbury, Bethel Land Trust, Brookfield Open Space Legacy, Inc, Preservation Associates of Terre Haute (PATH), Redding Land Trust, Town of Redding Conservation Commission, Newtown Forest Association, Town of Newtown Conservation Commission, Highstead, Housatonic Valley Association, and the Housatonic Valley Association of Elected Officials.
