Lenten Music At Trinity Sunday
Lenten Music At Trinity Sunday
On Sunday, March 11, Music @ Trinity will welcome back organist Robert Kwan for a recital at Trinity Episcopal Church, 36 Main Street. The 5 pm performance will include works of Mendelssohn, Vaughan Williams, J.S. Bach, and others.
Originally from British Columbia, Canada, Robert Kwan is currently the assistant to the organist-choirmaster at Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Westport, where he shares in the service playing, administration, rehearsal, and direction of the churchâs large and respected music program.
Prior to his appointment in Westport in 2008, Dr Kwan held appointments in Anglican and Episcopal churches in Rochester, N.Y., and Canada, and was the organ scholar at St Georgeâs Chapel, Windsor Castle, England from 2000 to 2001.
Dr Kwan holds the degrees of bachelor of music (2000) from the University of Victoria, master of music (2003), and doctor of musical arts (2008) as well as the Sacred Music Diploma (2008) from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, where he studied with David Higgs. He is also an associate of the Royal Canadian College of Organists and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.
In addition to his regular duties in Westport, Dr Kwan enjoys performing solo and collaborative recitals, in recent years presenting programs for duo organ, organ and voice, and solo organ.
Outside of music, he participates in recreational sports: tennis in the summer and curling in the winter.
In addition to the full performance, the beautiful acoustics of Trinity will make it an ideal locale for a community choral sing-in of Vivaldiâs Gloria at 4 pm. All are invited to join this event at 4, or arrive for the concert at 5.
Both events are free of charge.
