Mario J.          Calcaterra
Mario J. Calcaterra of Newtown died August 28 at the VA West Haven Campus. He was 89.
Born in West Hoboken, N.J., on July 16, 1915, he was a son of the late Primo and Amanda (Fontata) Calcaterra.
In 1937 Mr Calcaterra enlisted in the US Navy. He served in Europe and Asia on the USS Neches, USS Beaver, USS Piedmont, and the USS New Hampshire. He was honorably discharged in April 1945 as Boilermaker First Class.
Mr Calcaterra was the chief copy cutter and linotype operator for the New York Daily News.
Formerly of Palenville, N.Y., and Lake Katrine, N.Y., he recently moved to Newtown.
His wife Irene T. Calcaterra died August 4, 2003; two brothers, Paul and John Calcaterra, both died preciously.
Surviving is one son, Dennis Calcaterra and his wife Diana of Aurora, Colo.; one daughter, JoAnn Durdock of New Milford; six grandchildren, Rebecca Martemucci, Monica, Irene, and Veronica Calcaterra, and Jessica and Gregory Durdock; three great-grandchildren, Mario, Issac, and Luca; and several nieces and nephews.
The Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue, Kingston, N.Y., was in charge of arrangements.
A funeral mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Palenville, N.Y. Interment was in Palenville Cemetery.
