Thomas Ryan

Thomas Ryan, of Old Town Park Road, New Milford, and formerly of Newtown, died April 26 in New Milford Hospital after a three-year battle with cancer.

Mr Ryan was born in New York City December 12, 1924, son of the late Daniel and Anna (Lavan) Ryan. Two brothers, Daniel Ryan and Ralph Ryan are deceased.

Mr Ryan graduated from Mount St Michaels in New York and the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, Long Island, N.Y. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and served as an officer in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.

He was a registered land surveyor and his business, Ryan Associates, was in the Newtown area for more than 40 years. He also was vice president of David C. Flatau, Inc of Sherman.

He leaves a son, Timothy Ryan, and a grandson, Sean Michael Ryan, both of Connecticut.

He also leaves a niece, Janice Orzel of New York; a nephew, Daniel Ryan of Illinois; and two first cousins, Eileen Johnsmeyer of Eastham, Mass., and Margaret Ryan of Orleans, Mass.

Lillis Funeral Home in New Milford handled the funeral arrangements, which were private. A memorial service will be held in June in Orleans, Mass.
