George J. Renda

George J. Renda, a lifelong resident of the Danbury area, and husband of the late Edith B. Renda, died May 1 in Danbury Hospital. He was 85.

Born on Bank Street in Danbury, June 17, 1914, and raised on Comstock Street, he was the second son of the late Fortinatto and Amalia (Corpilaria) Renda, and brother to the late Louis J. Renda. He was the first of his family born in the United States after their emigration from Sanbiase, Italy.

Mr Renda attended St Peter’s School and worked at the Frank H. Lee Company as a hat flanger before and after his military service during World War II. He was later employed as a sales representative of the Reliable Liquor Company of Bridgeport and retired in 1977. After his marriage to Edith in 1961, he moved to her home on Birch Hill Road in Newtown where he has lived ever since. A member of the Newtown Country Club for 55 years, he was an active participant in a sport and a community that gave him so much.

Mr Renda leaves behind a large extended family of loved ones, fellow golfers, and dear friends, including daughter Molly Renda; step-daughters Roberta Elisabeth Doucet and Amy H. Duncan; grandchildren Madeleine Boutte, Hilary Alexander, Eric and Philippe Doucet, Ripley and Alice Whiteside; sons-in-law Jean Claude Doucet and Thomas Whiteside; sister-in-law Gertrude M. Vroom Renda; niece Carol Renda; nephew Robert Renda; and the Mesinger boys, Jim, Joe, and especially Ryan.

A graveside service was held at St Peter Cemetary, Saturday, May 6, at 11 am.

Contributions in Mr Renda’s memory may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810, to support the Nursing Education Fund.

The Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, was in charge of arrangements.
