Preparing For The Labor Day Book Sale
Preparing For The Labor Day Book Sale
By Jan Howard
So many books, so little time â this should be the theme of the 25th annual C.H. Booth Library Labor Day Book Sale at Bridgeport Hall on the former Fairfield Hills campus.
Thousands of books in 70 categories will be available beginning Saturday, September 2, and continuing through Wednesday, September 6.
Meanwhile, library volunteers are continuing their preparations for the sale. They have been working throughout the year, pricing and categorizing the books.
Joanne Zang, coordinator of the book sale, said additional volunteers are needed to help sort and pack books on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 am to noon at the library. As it gets closer to the sale dates, volunteers will also be needed in the evenings. To volunteer, call Mrs Zang at 426-5413 or the library at 426-4533 or just show up on Monday or Thursday mornings.
Books continue to be contributed daily and need to be categorized and packed for delivery to Bridgeport Hall prior to the sale. The library will continue to accept books, LP records, computer software, games, puzzles, videos, tapes, and CDs up to August 19, according to Mrs Zang.
No textbooks or encyclopedias over five years old or magazines are accepted.
Items may be left on the carts in the main entrance lobby by the childrenâs department during regular library hours.
Pickup for large quantity donations can be arranged by calling Mrs Zang at 426-5413. Â
During the sale, Bridgeport Hall is always overflowing with hardcover and paperback books in all categories, including rare books, fiction, non-fiction, biography, childrenâs, cooking, art, gardening, travel, local interest, sports, history, mathematics, nature, reference, and many more.
Admission to the Book Sale is charged only on Sat., Sept. 2. Numbered tickets will go on sale at 7 am at Fairfield Hills. Adult admission is $10 from 9 am to noon and $5 from noon to 5 pm.
