HUDSON VALLEY AUCTIONEERS PRESENTS MULTI-ESTATE AUCTION MARCH 26 w/2 cuts

avv/gs set 3-19 #692619

BEACON, N.Y. — Hudson Valley Auctioneers with auctioneer Neil Vaughn and sales manager Theo De Haas will offer the combined complete contents of the Dewey Owens/ Lawrence Majewski estates Monday, March 26, at 432 Main Street, beginning at 6 pm.

Professor Lawrence Majewski’s dual interest in art and conservation led him first into paintings conservation at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1952. In 1953, he participated in the conservation of the Byzantine Mosaics in Istanbul, which led to his appointment as deputy director of the Byzantine Institute of America in Istanbul, Turkey, from 1956 to 1960.

Offered in the auction will be the professor’s personal collection of 22 Byzantine icons, pre-Hellenistic pottery, hundreds of bronze Greek and Roman artifacts, American Indian items, Turkish and Persian Oriental rugs, French furniture, pre-Columbian pottery, ivories, early African and textiles.

Artwork includes a charcoal by Lee Krasner acquired from the artist in the Dewey estate; a 1959 oil, “Twin Pines,” Connecticut, by Richard (Alan) Schmid; several oils by Robert Helman; a large oil floral still life with figure by Waldo Peirce; several pieces by Eduardo Ramirez Villamizar; four lithographs by Josef Albers dated 1971; plus many other fresh to the market pieces.

The sale will include eight constructions of Outsider Art by African American artist James Russel, represented by the Ruth White Gallery in New York City.

Modern furniture from Millwood and Heritage Hills includes a bedroom set by Dunbar, several Paul McCobb pieces, along with other items from the period. A continuing offering of artwork by Dorothy Deyrup, a Nyack, N.Y., Art Deco artist, will include 15 pieces.

The auction is limited to 600 lots and most are viewable at www.hudsonvalleyauctioneers.com. Previews are Sunday, March 25, from 1 to 5 pm, and Monday from 2 pm until sale time.

Previews can be arranged by calling 845-838-3049 or Theo DeHaas 845-480-2381 or Neil Vaughn 914-489-2399. The next scheduled auction will be held April 30.
