Wine Tasting Will Benefit Habitat For Humanity

DANBURY â The Northern Fairfield County Association of RealtorsÂ® (NFCAR) is sponsoring A Wine Tasting to benefit Housatonic Habitat for Humanity.

The special event will take place at Ridgefield Country Club, 119 Franklin Street in Danbury, on Saturday, September 29, from 7 to 9:30 pm. The event will feature wines from around the world, donated by many distributors; hot and cold hors dâoeuvres; live music performed by pianist Kim Russell; Country Club amenities; and a silent auction to include balloon rides, spa treatments, weekends on Cape Cod, and other prizes.

Tickets are $75 per person, or $120 per couple, and must be purchased in advance. Checks, payable to Housatonic Habitat may be sent to NFCAR, Stony Hill Road, Bethel CT 06801. Credit-card purchases can be made by calling Housatonic Habit at 744-1340.

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
