Police Charge Five With Trespassing At Fairfield Hills

Police report that they charged five people from Litchfield County with simple trespassing at the Fairfield Hills campus late on the night of March 21.

Police Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner said that a security guard, while on patrol there, spotted the people near Litchfield House, after which they scattered. Police were called to the scene at 11:07 pm to investigate.

There was no evidence of any burglary or graffiti painting having occurred due to the trespassers’ presence, the sergeant said.

On the previous weekend, police investigated separate incidents involving a burglary at Cochran House and graffiti being spray-painted onto six buildings on the campus. That case remains under investigation.

On March 21, two of the trespassers were found near Cochran House and the other three were located on Mile Hill Road South, Sgt Wisentaner said. Police expect that there were other trespassers, possibly five more people, present that night who were able to leave the premises before police found them, he said.

When apprehended, the trespassers told police that they had heard that Fairfield Hills was a haunted area and that they were looking for ghosts, Sgt Wisentaner said. The people were equipped with flashlights, he said.

Charged with simple trespassing were: Robert Turrell, 21, of Thomaston; Lindsey Caminiti, 20, of Terryville; Mitchell Barnett, 22, of Thomaston; Victoria Jackson, 19, of Thomaston; and Rygel Lewis, 23, of Barkhamsted.

The trespassing infractions carry $92 fines. They are appealable in court.
