Professor Thomas J. McInerney of Portsmouth, N.H., formerly of Fairfield, died suddenly December 13. Dr McInerney was born on July 6, 1921, in Lynn, Mass.

Survivors include a son, Stephen, of Newtown.

Dr McInerney taught at Fairfield University, where he twice served as English Department Chairman.

He will be remembered for his cheerful nature, his love of teaching and learning, and his commitment to high standards.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10 am on Friday, December 19, at the Egan Chapel of St Ignatius of Loyola at Fairfield University. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Calling hours are scheduled from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, December 18, at the Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield. A memorial service will be held in January in Portsmouth, N.H.
