B’nai Israel Presents

‘The Jewish Experience’

DANBURY — The Dan Turk family, who live in Japan, will provide a first-hand account of their personal experience as participants in the Jewish community in Tokyo for the latest in Congregation B’nai Israel’s on-going series of talks on “The Jewish Experience” in various parts of the world.

The “Jewish Experience” series has taken audiences to Cuba, to a wedding in Bologna, Italy, to the former Soviet Union, and the Balkan Countries, for a glimpse into Jewish life as it is lived in these very different and, what could seem to us, unlikely cultures. The report by Yuki and Dan Turk will be especially fascinating because the Turk family, which also includes Benjamin, 11, and Hannah, 9, are themselves active in the community and members of a Tokyo synagogue, where Benjamin is being prepared for his Bar Mitzvah.

The Turk family spent their summers in Danbury. All four are bilingual, and Yuki Turk, who was born in Japan, has studied extensively since coming to this country, including special course work at the Jewish Theological Seminary.

The talk will be held at Congregation B’nai Israel, 193 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury, at 11 am on Sunday, June 24. Light refreshments will be available after the talk. It is open to the public and there is no charge.

Since the synagogue parking lot will be used on the same day for the B’nai Israel Annual Tag Sale, attendees are asked to park on the road or on the first side street on the left after the synagogue, going north on Clapboard Ridge Road. For further information call the synagogue at 203-792-6161.
