Itâs All About The Horse At Post University
WATERBURY â Equine Husbandry courses at Post University is designed to for horse owners and enthusiasts to deepen their understanding of the equine and up to date care and management without taking four- year college courses.
âThe Horseâ is the second course in the six-part Equine Husbandry series, although the courses may be taken in any order. No prerequisites are needed. Classes will be held on Monday evenings, March 14 through May 2 from 6:30-9:30 pm on Post Universityâs Waterbury campus in the Equine Center â MacDermid Hall, Room 212 (park in the North parking lot on Country Club Road, Exit 17 off of I-84).
This course will cover such topics as evolution, conformation, parts of the horse, blemishes, vices, conditioning, herd behavior, types of training, horse industry overview, equine disciplines, transporting horses, fitness for horse and rider, and equipment.
The Equine Husbandry courses are unique to Post University. The complete series may either be taken for Continuing Education Units at $525 apiece or for the Post University Certificate at $375 for each eight-week course. Several first-time horse owners have completed the full series and have been awarded their certificates.
The instructor for the courses is Jamison Wallace, a Centered Riding Instructor and Clinician Level III, currently president of Centered Riding, Inc. and a long time horse person and experienced instructor. Wallace also teaches in the equine program at Post University.
