Music, Magic & A Flair For Performing:
Summer Musical Theater Planning Second Show
On Friday, August 4, at 7 pm, at Newtown High School, students of Summer Musical Theater Workshop will promise to mystify their audience with their second performance of the summer. The summer workshop is being sponsored by Newtown Continuing Education.
Following a strong first performance, the campers went back to the drawing board. To top off that first performance, which was sold out, the students have developed a second show around a new theme: A Magical Musical Review. The cabaret-style performance will open with âMagic To Doâ from Pippin and from there they will draw the audience in with their talent. The performance will include popular Broadway musical hits such as âFriendshipâ from Anything Goes, âMy Own Little Cornerâ from Cinderella, and âMatchmakerâ from Fiddler on the Roof.
The campers have exhibited âwizardlyâ leaps and bounds in their acting ability, stage presence and vocal technique. And while the campers cannot make the set magically appear, their technical skills have also expanded. Therefore this second performance of the summer will feature a more intricate set built by the campers themselves. As their abilities have improves, so too has the bond they share with each other.
The actors and actresses plan to entrance their audience with bewitching performances.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or by calling the Newtown Continuing Education at 426-1787. The first performance was sold out, so reservations are being strongly suggested for the second show.
The director of the workshop and the choral director at the high school, John Harned, is being joined by technical director and set designer Erin Thomas is leading the workshop. Assisting them on this magical journey are five counselors who either currently attend Newtown High School or have recently graduated from it.
