Prison Official Charged

With Fraud

HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut authorities have arrested a lieutenant with the state Department of Correction on allegations he ran a business while he was out of work and collecting disability payments.

Forty-nine-year-old Stephen Zaczynski of Suffield was charged October 5 with workers’ compensation fraud, larceny, and failure to maintain workers’ compensation insurance at his company.

An arrest warrant says Zaczynski filed for disability benefits in September 2008 for a job-related injury. The warrant accuses him of running New England Pellet LLC while he was out of work, and illegally collecting nearly $13,000 in benefits.

Zaczynski and prison officials did not immediately return messages left by The Associated Press Tuesday.

Zaczynski was released on a promise to appear in Enfield Superior Court on October 20.
