Children’s Spring Vacation Program

At Flanders

WOODBURY — Children on school break are invited to visit Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust for a “splashing” good time during their spring vacation from Monday, April 14, through Friday, April 18. Children can be registered for one day’s class, or for all five sessions.

Morning classes for preschoolers will run from 9:30 am to noon, and afternoon classes for children in grades K–5 will run 1 to 4 pm.

Each of the days will offer a different topic. On Monday, “Finding Flanders Frogs” will be the subject, where children will hike to the vernal pools to find wood frogs and spring peepers and to the farm pond to find bullfrog tadpoles. On Tuesday, it will be “Search for Salamanders and Newts”; Wednesday will be “Busy Beavers,” with children visiting the marsh to view the lodge and learn about those busy beavers and their role in the pond.

On Thursday the topic will be “Dragons in the Pond?” with a hike to investigate aquatic insects with incomplete metamorphosis. Finally, on Friday, there will be “Turtle Time and Other Reptiles,” where children will visit with live turtles and a snake.

Flanders has planned these classes to be exciting outdoor adventures that will allow young people the opportunity to explore the natural world and help foster an understanding and connection with the environment.

Program fee for each class is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers; registration and prepayment are required. Children should be dressed for the out-of-doors and bring along a snack for the hikes. Those interested are asked to call 263-3711, extension 10.
