Strong Bones For Life

WATERBURY — Waterbury Hospital will offer an osteoporosis prevention and education program titled “Osteoporosis – Strong Bones for Life!” from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, September 20, in the medical staff conference room at the hospital.

Guest speakers are Gerald Berg, MD, chairman of the Department of Radiology at Waterbury Hospital, and David Podell, MD, director of the Department of Medicine at Waterbury Hospital. They will discuss disease prevention, as well as the signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. To pre-register for the program, call 203/573-6257. Space is limited. A $5 donation is suggested.

Researchers estimate that about 23 percent of American women over the age of 50 have osteoporosis. And more than half of the women over 50 will suffer a fracture of the hip, wrist, or vertebra. This Waterbury Hospital program will teach participants what they can do to reduce their risks, whether they’re a teenager or a great-grandmother.
