Connecticut Artists Invited To Build 'Creative Contraptions'
Connecticut Artists Invited To Build âCreative Contraptionsâ
STAMFORD â The Stamford Museum & Nature Center is inviting Connecticut artists to submit work for a juried exhibition scheduled for February through May 2005. The exhibition, whose working title is âCreative Contraptions,â is inspired by the inventions of the artist Rube Goldberg (1883-1970). âCreative Contraptionsâ is made possible, in part, by a grant from Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.
Artists who are Connecticut residents are invited to submit proposals and sketches for works that will engage a family audience and encourage hands-on participation. Each artist selected for the exhibition will receive an honorarium of $2,000 for interactive works and $1,000 noninteractive works.
Artist proposals will be reviewed by a panel of distinguished jurors, including Jessica Hough, curator of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum; Deborah Rothschild, senior curator for Modern and Contemporary Art at the Williams College Museum of Art; and Deborah Schwartz, deputy director of the Department of Education at the Museum of Modern Art.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, October 19.
A prospectus and entry form may be obtained by visiting www.StamfordMuseum.org or by calling 203-322-1646 extension 233.
