Good Things In Small Packages At Miller Gallery
Good Things In Small Packages At Miller Gallery
WOODBURY â For anyone whose list of favorite things includes all that glitters, then a trip to P.H. Miller Gallery should be at the top of that list this holiday season.
For the past six months a select group of artists has been collaborating with the galleryâs owner and frame maker, Peter Miller. The result is a collection of 18 exclusive paintings by well-known area artists that are dressed to thrill in original museum quality frames.
The resulting special holiday exhibition, âBlack Tie,â is on view at the gallery until January 15.
Each frame has been designed with the development of the paintings in mind. Artists met with Mr Miller on a regular basis to discuss the progress of the artwork and the frame. Contrary to commercially produced frames, these borders have been carefully planned to complement each painting, from the carving and shape to the color of the gold. This process was a reflection of the past, when historically many artists worked in conjunction with their frame makers of choice to ensure the proper presentation of their work.
Artists that were chosen for this exhibit are Thomas Adkins, Judith Andrew, Robert Crawford, Joy Bristol, Helene Brier, David Heskes, Robert Holden, Ella Knox, John Schieffer, Katrina Schmidt-Rinke, Mary Whyte and Tom Yost.
The paintings range from still life to traditional landscape to figurative and contemporary abstraction. Like other holiday shows, this one focuses on small paintings, however these works are anything but ordinary. In a world where bigger has become not necessarily better, these paintings hold their own with a grace and beauty that larger paintings could only hope for.
P.H. Miller Gallery, at 495 Main Street South (Route 6) in Woodbury, is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Sunday from noon until 4:30 pm. Call 203-263-3939 or visit www.PHMiller.com for additional information.
