Open Burning Season To Close Soon

The last day that residents may obtain town permits for open burning during the current open burning season is Friday, June 29.

With a permit, the last day that residents can perform open burning will be Sunday, July 1.

Following the May 16 tornado, which caused heavy tree damage in sections of town, the fire marshal reopened the open burning season to allow residents to burn brush.

After receiving an open burning permit, permit holders must contact the town’s emergency dispatch center by telephone at 270-4200 on the day of the scheduled open burning to learn if weather conditions allow open burning on that day.

Residents may apply for open burning permits at the fire marshal’s office at 31 Peck’s Lane, telephone 270-4370. Permits cost $5.
