Inspection Team Checks Commercial Trucks For Safety Violations
During a commercial truck enforcement project held in town on October 7, a team of inspectors checked 13 trucks, five of which were taken out of road service until serious motor vehicle safety violations could be resolved, according to a statement from town police.
The inspectors detected 62 violations among the 13 commercial trucks that they inspected. Two of those violations involved overweight trucks.
The inspection project was intended to improve local roadway safety by finding and enforcing safety violations on large commercial vehicles, police said.
Participating in the enforcement project were: town police Officer Jeff Silver; the town policeâs traffic enforcement unit; state Department of Motor Vehicles inspectors; and state police inspectors. Officer Silver is the town police departmentâs commercial vehicle inspector.
After selecting trucks for inspections, the enforcement team checked those trucks for safety violations in a parking lot at Fairfield Hills.
Officer Silver typically conducts commercial vehicle inspections randomly during his patrol duties.
