To the Editor:
As the former town clerk and chief election official of the Town of Newtown (20 years), I feel qualified to state that experience in the job of registrar of voters most definitely matters and should be seriously considered when choosing your Republican registrar of voters.
I am very sorry that the former Board of Education chose to ignore what was best for the Town of Newtown and terminated the owner-operator school bus system. And... I am also sorry for Carey Schierloh, who, as an owner-operator school bus driver in Newtown, is now out of that job. However, I do not feel that her loss of that job and her friendship with the Democratic registrar of voters (also a Newtown owner-operator school bus driver) justifies terminating the job of the current Republican registrar of voters.
Karin Aurelia has worked in the registrarsâ office for 17 years, 12 of those years as the Republican registrar of voters. Carey Schierloh has never worked at an election or referendum in any capacity and thus, has zero experience.
I know Carey Schierloh and she is a great person with fine attributes, but choosing her as your Republican registrar candidate would be like comparing apples and oranges. Zero experience compared to 17 years experience.
I urge you to vote for Karin Aurelia on August 14, the candidate with experience, not the candidate âout of a job.â Please allow Karin to continue performing her job.
