Free Health Screening Offered To Area Veterans

DANBURY — VA Connecticut Healthcare System will conduct a free preventive care health screening for area veterans at Danbury Ives Manor, 198 Main Street in Danbury, on Wednesday, December 1.

This free exam takes approximately 45-minutes and includes checks for blood pressure, pulse, total and HDL cholesterol, hearing loss and blood glucose. Lung function tests are available for veterans who smoke or who are experiencing breathing problems. Participants will be given a home test kit to screen for colon-rectal cancer. No fasting or special diet is required for the screening.

This screening is open to all honorably discharged veterans who are not currently enrolled at VA Connecticut Healthcare System. Veterans should bring a copy of their discharge papers (DD 214). Veterans can enroll for health care benefits during the screening.

Screenings are available by appointment only. Call Pat Waldron, director of veterans affairs for Danbury at 797-4620.

A similar health screening will be held on December 2 at the Monroe Senior Center. To register call 452-3771.

All area veterans, especially service-connected and low income veterans, are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for free preventive care.
