Raffle Drawing Begins Libraryâs Celebratory Weekend
By Shannon Hicks
On September 28, members of C.H. Booth Libraryâs board of trustees gathered near the libraryâs Young Adult Department for the first of two weekend events planned to celebrate the libraryâs 75th anniversary. (See elsewhere in this weekâs Bee for coverage of the second event, a gala at Rock Ridge Country Club.)
On Friday afternoon, the trustees invited Library Director Janet Woycik to pick the winning tickets for a raffle that offered four big prizes. Raffle tickets had been sold for just $10 each since early July, offering ticket-holders the chance of winning a pair of diamond earrings, a laptop computer, three hours of spa pampering at Ricciâs, and an iPod.
Board member Pat Denlinger said Friday afternoon that a total of 418 tickets had been sold over the summer, the proceeds of which would benefit the library. Fellow board members Marilyn Alexander, Kathy Geckle, and Mary Robilotti were also at the library for the raffle drawing, and Lee M. Teicholz, a charitable games liaison officer from the State Division of Special Revenue, was on hand as an official witness to the proceedings.
Precisely at 5 pm (according to the clock on Mr Teicholzâs cellphone), the drawing was held. The top prize â the diamond earrings â was won by Jean Kurtz of Stratford.
The laptop (second prize) was won by Kara Williams Blomstrand of California, the gift certificate for spa time at Ricciâs was won by Rita Crana of Danbury, and the iPod went to Nancy McLachland of Southbury.
