Children Programs:

Summer Reading: The Children’s Room is gearing up for summer reading 2000: “Blast Off With a Good Book.” The kickoff program on June 27 at 10:30 am will feature Newtown author Bruce Degan, a special appearance by Ms Frizzle, and music by Erik Bagger. Children can sign up any time from June 27 through August 12.

Literacy Bags: Check out the new Literacy bags for grades K-3 on a variety of subjects, including art, music, dance, food, dogs, folktales, libraries, camping, and many more. Each bag is filled with books and activities for children to share with their parents. Don’t miss the fire truck exhibit that is currently on display in the children’s room. R.D. Nosal is sharing his collection.

Adult Programs:

Joan Bouchard, CLU, ChFC, will be conducting a workshop on Estate Conservation on June 8 from 6-8 pm in the meeting room. The program is free but you do need to register by calling 797-1203 to reserve your place and workbook.

Andrea Zimmermann and Roberta Jones, the daughters of the late Lois Zimmermann, invite you to view an exhibit of their mother’s artwork at the library from June 9 through June 20 during regular library hours. There will be a dessert and champagne punch reception on Sunday, June 11, from 2-4 pm that all are invited to attend. Lois was a professional artist for more than 30 years and created work in pastel, oil, watercolor, and acrylic. The exhibit will be comprised of her prolific and diverse work, which includes portraiture, still life, seascapes, abstract, miniatures, and sculpture.

The Booth Library Book Discussion Group will be reading The Map of the World by Jane Hamilton on Thursday, June 15, at 7:30 pm in the Special Collections room on the third floor. New members are always welcome. You need not read the entire book to join the discussion. We will be voting on books to be discussed for next year, so come give us some input on the books you’d like to read in the upcoming months.

The Flagpole Photographers will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 pm in the meeting room. This month’s topic will be a slide critique. The public is invited to attend.

Mark your calendars for the Summer Concert Series, which will be beginning on Friday, June 23, with The Duane Reilly Trio. Concerts will begin at 7 pm. Bring a picnic basket and your lawn chairs, and spend an hour listening to music in the Booth back yard. Should it rain the concert will be moved inside the library. On Friday, July 14, the Jackson Pike Skifflers will be performing, and on Friday, August 18, Treblehook will be returning.

If you have any questions about any of these programs please call the library at 426-4533.
