Destination Newtown Set For November 10

The 8th annual Destination Newtown — the only annual business-oriented exposition in town — will be held on Thursday, November 10, from 4 to 7 pm at the Newtown Congregational Church at 14 West Street.

Open to the public and free to attend, Destination Newtown is an opportunity for chamber members to meet and network with other businesses and community members. Attendees are invited to explore the booths, enjoy food donated by local restaurants and meet owners and employees of the best businesses in town.

Chamber members are invited to participate as sponsors, advertisers and expo exhibitors. Themed “The Best of Newtown,” the event is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown and sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank, Costco of Brookfield, Cumulus Radio i95, Newtown Bee and Newtown Patch.

The event will again feature the popular Taste of Newtown with samples from more than ten local restaurants, including Sal e Pepe, My Place, Tambascio’s, Mona Lisa, Carminuccio’s and Franco’s, with new additions to be featured as well.

Additional highlights include kid-friendly activities such as face painting and coloring, health screening and flu shots, raffles, music and more.

New this year is a free shuttle bus service provided to help alleviate the crowded parking lot issues experienced in the past. Attendees can hop on the free shuttle bus that will transport people to and from the Edmond Town Hall rear parking lot.

The shuttle will operate between 4 and 7 pm.

A VIP Networking Reception is returning this year at 2:45 pm, exclusively for the business community. Chamber members pay $10 and admission is $15 for nonmembers.

The keynote speaker is John Murphy, chief executive officer of Western Connecticut Health Network. Neurologist and Newtown resident. Dr Murphy assumed the role of president and chief executive officer of Danbury Health Systems, Inc in 2010 after serving as its executive vice president since 2008. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will conclude the reception and open the expo floor.
