*If you listen to some people, ska is dead.

But some of those people have also been trying to tell us for years that rock is dead, and I haven’t seen proof of that yet either.

Ska Is Dead 3, the second Ska Is Dead tour this year (SID 2, featuring Voodoo Glow Skulls, Streetlight Manifesto and MU330, kicked off in January of this year), will reach Connecticut next month with a stop at The Webster Theater on Tuesday, September 20. The current SID tour features THE TOASTERS, PLANET SMASHERS and WESTBOUND TRAIN, and the tour continues SID 1’s mission of reviving the North American ska scene by creating a really strong package, playing some of the best all ages venues, and keeping ticket prices reasonable.

Tickets for the Hartford show are just $14 at the door, or $12 in advance.

For full details about the tour visit www.SkaIsDead.com; for show-specific details and info on other upcoming Webster shows visit www.WebsterTheater.com.

*Tonight’s JOHNNY WINTER BAND show at Toad’s Place has been replaced by an all ages GREAT BIG SEA performance. I’m not sure when this change was made.

Next weekend the club will feature a show by THE MACHINE, the Pink Floyd tribute band, performing the full 1978 album Animals. SOL DOG has the opening set on August 19, so get there early.

SECRET SMILE’s show next month has been moved from the 15th to September 2. That show will be a CD release party; opener has not yet been announced.

Atmosphere will now be playing an all ages show on September 15.

*A December date for BONNIE RAITT’s Souls Alike Theater Tour, which hits the road in early October from Tulsa, Okla., looks good for Connecticut. Raitt is scheduled for a December 16 show at Foxwoods Casino’s Fox Theatre.

No ticket information is available yet, although earlier shows on the tour have started going on sale.

*Monday night’s MEAT LOAF concert at Mohegan Sun is officially sold out.

The former Connecticut resident participated in a teleconference interview on August 3, during which he said he is working on Bat Out Of Hell III, this time with producer Michael Beinhorn, and the project isn’t expected to be ready for at least a full year. Which means Bat III will be coming out one year before the 30th anniversary of Bat’s release.

The dog referred to in the name of the current tour, Hair of The Dog Tour, is performer’s dog, Angus, by the way. The tour’s name refers to the way Meat Loaf and his band feel after each show.

“It’s not that we have hangovers every morning,” Meat Loaf told one reporter. “It’s more about how we feel at the end of the show.”

“It’s a little fireball of a show,” he told another reporter. “It’s like the shortest show we’ve done and we’ve got as many songs and it doesn’t stop. … It’s an aerobic workout, is really what it is. It’s my Jane Fonda video.”

*HOLLY GOLIGHTLY will bring her “hip garage stylings” to Café Nine in New Haven on August 17.

*Next weekend will open locally with another show by JOHN VOKET at Mocha Coffee House in Sandy Hook. John returns on Friday night at 7.

The following evening is another return – TED & DEAN’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, also getting underway around 7.

*The CityCenter Danbury Summertime Festival continues next weekend with THE SUNDOWN BAND’S SOUTHERN ROCK TRIBUTE on Friday, August 19. The free show will begin at 7:30 on the green that is surrounded by Ives Street and Patriot Drive.

The concert is noteworthy in this space because the band’s “authentic and raw emotional performances” pay tribute to the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws, ZZ Top and others.

*DAR WILLIAMS will be playing at Toad’s Place in New Haven on September 26. Tickets for that show are $22 and available now.

*The Webster Theatre has added an August 23 DICKEY BETTS show. Tickets for that night are $18.

*They went looking for drama and unfortunately drama found them.

The YES show that was to play at Mohegan Sun on August 28 has been cancelled. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.

A note on Mohegan’s website says the Howe, Squire & White – The More Drama Tour has been cancelled “due to immigration issues in the wake of heightened security brought on by the recent terrorist attacks in London.”

*Mohegan Sun will host a Spanish-language show with MARC ANTHONY headlining next month.

The September 5 event will also feature CHAYANNE and ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ. Tickets are on sale, at $75, $95 and $125.

*Over at Foxwoods, the following shows are now being listed as sold out: tonight’s LEANN RIMES; HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS, on August 20; ULTIMATE ELVIS SHOW, August 21; HALL & OATES and TODD RUNDGREN, September 2; and JETHRO TULL, October 7.

The good news, as far as the Hall & Oates show goes, if you have your heart set on seeing Hall & Oates they’re going to be playing a concert much closer to Newtown than the Uncasville show is anyway. H&O will he headlining the closing concert for the season at Ives Concert Park in Danbury on Thursday, September 1. Todd Rundgren is not part of the bill for that show, but TEARS FOR FEARS will be opening.

Tickets for that show are available and they range from $14 for children on the lawn and $28 for adults on the lawn to $62 and $88 for reserved seating.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you... on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
