Joan Ainsworth Slocum

Devoted To Family

And Volunteer Work

Joan Ainsworth Slocum, 81, of Newtown died July 22 in the Lutheran Home in Southbury. She was born in Salem, Mass., August 18, 1927.

Mrs Slocum was a resident of Darien for more than 50 years prior to moving to Newtown with her daughter Sarah Naphen and family.

She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jim Naphen; and son Paul G. Slocum and his wife, Jill, of Michigan; five beautiful grandchildren; a sister; and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Slocum; and daughter Sandy Slocum.

Her contagious smile and countless hours of volunteer work were a big part of her life, along with her loving family and many friends. She was known as a “part of the fabric of the community.” She was an active member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Darien for years.

A memorial service was held July 29 in Darien. Internment will be in Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead, Mass., at a later date.

Her children would like to thank the special angels at the Lutheran Home in Southbury for their endless love and devotion given to their Mom throughout the final year-and-a-half of her life.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Lutheran Home, 990 Main Street, Southbury CT  06488.
