A Super Silent Auction For NUSAR, New Pound For Newtown

The Independent Party of Newtown and The Inn at Newtown are teaming up to host a silent auction to benefit Newtown Underwater Search & Rescue and the construction of a new pound for Newtown.

The silent auction will provide funds for both of these worthy organizations. Preview will begin Saturday, May 10, at the Inn, at 19 Main Street, will continue for about a week, culminating  Sunday, May 18.

A preview book, including photos of the auction items, gift certificates, and bid sheets, is available at the manager’s desk for interested bidders to peruse and bid at their leisure. On Sunday, the inn will have a room set up where all of the auction items will be on display along with corresponding bid sheets. Bidding will close at 7 pm.

“We have assembled a list of current silent auction items, and continue to collect even more. The support from the community has been wonderful,” said Donna Randle, who is organizing the event. “The list of items will be made available via e-mail; however, we urge everyone to stop by The Inn at Newtown to view the preview book and leave a bid. We wish to extend a big ‘Thank You’ to The Inn at Newtown for supporting this endeavor to help these two very worthy organizations.”

Newtown Underwater Search And Rescue (NUSAR) is an all-volunteer emergency response team dedicated to saving lives through search and rescue operations. NUSAR promotes water safety and awareness and provides public education.

NUSAR is also a proud sponsor of the life jacket loaner program for kids, which provides a personal flotation device for any situation. The team of 13 men and women operates mainly through donations and fundraisers.

Meanwhile, a new pound for Newtown’s abandoned dogs and feral cats is sorely needed. With the passing of the town budget, the town is step closer to beginning construction.

Additional funds are still needed, however, to achieve the objective of providing a safe, clean, and up-to-date facility for the animals. The new facility will have ample storage and space for exercise, grooming, and isolation for sick animals. A separate cat room is also in the works.

Call Ms Randle at 364-9772 for additional information about the silent auction.
