The True Facts

To the Editor:

We have all read the letters from Ruby Johnson regarding the Fairfield Hills Master Plan. Fellow Newtowners, it is now time to learn some true facts.

*There are currently 112 acres of open space on the FHH campus. The plan provides for 140 acres of open space. Do the math. The campus will continue to be green!

*The master plan specifically provides options for decisionmaking by future generations.

*The June 2001 town meeting approved sorely needed playing fields for recreational use. Yes, they are in the plan.

*The plan responds to the numerous presentations to the FFH Ad Hoc Committee by arts and civic groups. It sets aside buildings, which could be funded by public and/or private means, carving out facilities for Newtown organizations and events such as the Library Book Sale. All private use buildings would be leased. There would be no sale of buildings or land.

*The plan provides for the opportunity for the town to meet various needs including municipal, educational, and economic development. For example, Danbury Hospital has expressed a specific and earnest interest in Woodbury Hall as a site for Danbury Offices of Physician Services and a diagnostic center.

*There is no hotel in the Master Plan.

I am writing this letter because I am disturbed by incorrect information that is being presented to Newtown citizens. The master plan has been well thought out and will be an asset to this town. Yes, my husband was on the now disbanded Ad Hoc Committee. Do I always agree with him? No. But on this matter I do. The master plan is on the Town of Newtown website. Learn the true facts for yourself.

Respectfully submitted,
