To the Editor:
With the springlike weather weâve experience this month, only two things belie spring fever: the calendar and the falling leaves. Nevertheless, what a wonderful opportunity to do some spring cleaning with our local government.
We are being taxed with merely a modicum of representation. Our tax dollars are being mismanaged and misspent in total disregard of our wishes. Letâs face it, Newtowners, itâs time for a change! Itâs time to end this dynasty that has taken over our town government. Remember, our forefathers left their mother country to establish a government by the people and for the people and not by and for kings and their dynasties.
A group of bright leaders has emerged. They pledge to reorder our priorities, eliminate the fluff in our budget and reallocate our tax dollars to upgrade our schools through a reworked Capital Improvement Plan. Itâs time to eliminate the Fairfield Hills Authority and allow a new Legislative Council to rework the âmaster planâ so that it truly reflects the will of the townspeople. Itâs time to do away with frivolous spending on pet projects like new town halls. Itâs time to allow voters access to more information about budget creation. The Internet has ushered in the age of information equality, a wonderfully democratic trend. We can shift debates from emotions toward facts. Letâs use it!
Itâs time to vote for the Independent Party of Newtown in order to install a new Legislative Council. The new members will comprise a group of intelligent professionals who are willing to volunteer to lend their expertise and vision for a better Newtown.
Complacency does not create change. A 23 percent turnout will not change the status quo. Your vote matters for a better Newtown. Inform yourself, consult their website: www.IndependentPartyofNewtown.com. Come on Newtowners, get out and vote on Tuesday, November 6!
Weâve been residents for 30 years. Go, Newtown!
