Edible Insects, And More, At Kettletown State Park

SOUTHBURY — The Kettletown State Park Interpretive Program will offer a full range of activities for Labor Day weekend.

On Saturday, September 1, at 10:30 am, visitors will discover the many types of trees in Kettletown State Park during “Tree-mendous Trees.” Participants will build a tree, make a tree cookie to take home, and even complete a tree scavenger hunt.

Those who dare can try some Chirpie Cookies and other insect treats during a program being called “Edible Insects” Saturday night at 8 pm. This program will feature a slide show presentation on common insects and how they are considered food in some cultures. Participants are invited to BYOI (bring your own insect) to discuss.

On Sunday, September 2, at 2 pm join the staff members for a bike hike along the new state greenway, Larkin State Bridle Trail. Pre-registration is required for this event. Meeting place will be given upon registration.

Sunday night, celebrate the full moon. Join the Full Moon Festival, beginning at 8 pm, for stories, snacks, and a full moon hike. Participants will also make a glow in the dark moon to take home.

For more information on programs or to schedule a program for a group, contact Park Interpreter Lisa Monachelli at 264-5678. Evening programs begin at the Camp Office and morning programs are held at the beach.
