The Halloween Spook Run

 

The Brookfield Parks and Recreation Department, The Brookfield Journal and B105 FM will sponsor the Eighth Annual Halloween Spok Run on Sunday, October 31, at 10 am, at the Brookfield Municipal Center on Pocono Road. Cost is $12 before the race and $15 on the day of the race. There will be t-shirts to the first 300 entrants, prizes to the top runners in seven age groups, prizes for best costumes, and much more. A 5k Fun Run will also be held, starting at 9:30 am, for kids 5-and-under, 6 to 8, and 9 and up. Call 775-7310 for further information.

U14 Softball Tryouts & Fall Ball

 

The Connecticut Crushers U14 girls’ fast pitch summer travel team will be holding tryouts for the 2000 season on Sunday, October 10. Call Tony Sproviero at 1-203-794-9116.

U16 Travel Softball

 

A 16-and-under girls’ traveling softball team (name still undetermined) will be holding tryouts for the summer 2000 season. Any players interested in participating should call Frank Bonacci at 426-3361 for further details on sites and times.

Boy Scout Clay Fun Shoot

 

The Fairfield County Fish and Game Protective Association on Hammertown Road in Newtown will host its third annual Sporting Clay Fun Shoot on Sunday, October 24, to benefit the Connecticut Yankee Council and Housatonic Council, Boy Scouts of America. The event is open to experts and novices alike. More than 100 shooters are expected to participate. Squadding of teams will begin at 8:30 am, with lunch, door prizes and gala drawings followed by an awards ceremony around 2 pm. Registration is $65 for adults and $45 for juniors (limited to the first 130 shooters) and is due by October 15. Call Chris Harvey at 1-203-876-6868, ext. 233 for further information.

Referee Certification Clinic

 

The Newtown Soccer Club will sponsor a Referee Certification Clinic on Tuesday, October 19, at 6 pm, in the Newtown Middle School cafeteria. All Newtown referees must take the clinic to continue refereeing in the spring of 2000. This includes those referees who took the six-week course in March, 1999. All refs should have received a packet for the course. If you have not and wish to attend, contact Anne Brennan of the Newtown Soccer Club.

Final Breeze Tryouts

 

The Connecticut Breeze U18 girls’ fastpitch softball team will hold final tryouts for four roster spots on the summer 2000 team on Saturday, October 16, from 9 am to 1 pm. If interested and for details, call Mark McCusker at 426-1501 or Tom Charney at 1-203-877-9148.
