Beloved Wife, Mother,
And Grandmother
Mae (McKane) Hein, 71, beloved wife of Robert Hein of Sandy Hook, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, August 5, at Danbury Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born June 2, 1939, in Bridgeport, the daughter of Edith and Francis McKane.
Mrs Hein worked in the cafeteria of Sandy Hook Elementary for 30 years before retiring in 2003.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed walking and exercising at Curves for Women, camping, doing puzzles, and playing scrabble.
Besides her husband, she will be sadly missed by her daughters, Dorothy Kelly and Diane Hein of Sandy Hook, and Pamela Michel of Southbury; her sons, Richard Hein of Newtown and Robert Hein of Naugatuck; and four grandchildren. She is additionally survived by her sisters, Mildred Chirkis, Edith Webster, Beth Reckert, and Pat Anzellotti; and two brothers, Frank and Gary McKane; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Shimko; and a brother, Jimmy McKane.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family requests contributions be made in Mrs Heinâs name to the FAITH Food Pantry, St Johnâs Episcopal Church, 5 Washington Avenue, Sandy Hook CT 06482.
Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.
