A Sublime Evening Of Music

To the Editor:

On December 30, Trinity Episcopal Church on Main Street was the setting for a sublime evening of music presented by the Concert Society of Putnam and Northern Westchester, under the direction of Newtown resident Richard E. Serbagi. This third annual concert, to benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association (NSA), was a tremendous success thanks to the brilliant performance of the Concert Society and soloists Jan-Piet Knijff, John Mastroianni, Maria Ferrante, Fernando Medina-Caceres, and Midhat Serbagi, and the generosity of event sponsors, patrons, organizers, volunteers, and attendees.

On behalf of the board of governors of the NSA, we extend our thanks to the Reverend Kathleen Adams-Shepherd and the members of Trinity Church for their continued support in providing the venue for this wonderful event. We gratefully acknowledge event sponsors Newtown Savings Bank; Richard Trifiro Family Foundation; People’s Bank; Studley, White & Associates; and TR Paul, Inc. Our gratitude to patrons Mr and Mrs Joseph DiCandido, Mr and Mrs Robert H. Hall, Mr and Mrs John S. Madzula, Mr and Mrs John J. Martocci, Mr and Mrs William F. Meyer, Mr and Mrs James T. Morley, and Mr and Mrs Richard L. Sturdevant. Thank you also to Star 99.9 for the concert programs.

Special thanks to concert committee members Barbara Borst, Stephanie Gaston, Judy Gilkes Benson, and Jim Morley, and to event volunteers Tara Gaston, Alex Konneker, Casey Frobey, and Alex Meisel. Our appreciation also goes to the Cyrenius Booth Library and Newtown Savings Bank for ticket sales.

Since its founding in 1937, the NSA has provided nearly $2.5 million in scholarships and continuing aid to college-bound high school graduates from Newtown. The NSA is supported through contributions given by Newtown residents and businesses, long-term gifts, named scholarships, honorary or memorial scholarships, and through fundraising events. Sincerely,

Cheryl Clark
