Whiffenpoofs Will Return For Headlining Engagement

Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is pleased to announce that The Whiffenpoofs of Yale University will be performing at Newtown Middle School on Saturday, January 30, at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $30 and may be purchased online by visiting NewtownArtsCommission.org.

The Whiffenpoofs are a world renowned male singing group from Yale University. Each year 14 of the finest male singers from Yale’s senior class are chosen to be members of this, the world’s oldest and best known male a cappella ensemble.

Over 100 years after the group’s founding in 1909, the Whiffenpoofs continue their proud tradition of outstanding musicianship and exceptional entertainment. Each year, “The Whiffs” perform over 200 concerts worldwide. Last year, their tour included Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree, and recently to a near capacity crowd in Newtown during a snowstorm for the  December edition of The Flagpole Radio Café.

Their diverse repertoire, which comprises everything from Yale songs to contemporary favorites, guarantees a dynamic performance for any audience.

“The Whiffenpoofs put on an outstanding show as guest artists for The Flagpole Radio Café last month,” said Newtown Cultural Arts Commission Chairperson Jennifer Johnston. “Their superb musicianship was matched by their showmanship. We laughed, cheered, and were generally enthralled by these remarkable young men.

“I’m delighted that the Cultural Arts Commission was able to bring them to Newtown and we are looking forward to their concert with great anticipation.”

Additional NCAC Events

In addition to hosting The Whiffenpoofs in January, The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission has two events on its calendar for February.

The next edition of Flagpole Radio Café will be presented at Edmond Town Hall on Saturday, February 6, at 7 pm. The Flagpole Radio Café is an evening of lively music and engaging comedy fashioned as an old time radio variety show.

Play With Your Food, the theater series introduced in Newtown in December, will also make a return to Edmond Town Hall. The midday theater offering will be back on Thursday, February 18, at noon, in the town hall’s Alexandria Room. Play with Your Food is Fairfield County’s most popular lunchtime theatre series. The February show will feature works by David Ives, Fred Stroppel and Leslie Ayvazian.

For ticket purchases and information for all of these events, visit the NCAC website at NewtownArtsCommission.org.
