NORWALK — The Norwalk Youth Symphony, now in its 44th season, will present its annual winter concert on Saturday, February 26, at 8 pm, at Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue.

The Principal Orchestra, under the direction of Eckart Preu, will play An American in Paris by Gershwin and Bolero by Ravel. The Concert Orchestra, directed by Richard Books, will play the overture to Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach and selections from Symphony No 5 by Beethoven.

James Andres will lead the two Chamber Orchestras in performances of works by Bach, Mozart, Strauss and Tchaikovsky.

Since 1956, the Norwalk Youth Symphony has been providing superlative orchestral training for young musicians from over 30 towns and communities in Fairfield County and its surrounding area. This year, 250 students from grades 4 through 12 — those who have played their instrument for only a few years and those who qualify for the best music schools in the country — are participating in one of our four graded orchestras or in one of our chamber music ensembles. NYS concerts attract over 3,000 people each year, and take place not only in Norwalk but also at such venues as Carnegie Hall and Tanglewood.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults, $6 for students and seniors. Teachers and young musicians are admitted free. Also welcome are groups such as Scout troops and senior centers. For further information, call 203/866-4100.
