Volunteering On The HomeFront
Volunteering On The HomeFront
To the Editor:
On Saturday, May 7, the Knights of Columbus and more than 60 volunteers participated in AmeriCares HomeFront. In Newtown, we worked on three homes of senior citizens doing yardwork, rehanging gutters, and interior cleaning (yes, we do windows). In Danbury, we reshingled one side of a home, painted the interior and exterior (using 25 gallons of paint), insulated the basement, wrapped all heating pipes, roofed a small section, installed an exterior window, performed drywall repair, and installed carpet in the living room. All of this work was completed in just one day. Although the weather was questionable, the spirit of our volunteers was never in doubt.
Helping to guarantee the success of this day were Martin Blais Siding, Goulart Construction, Sherwin-Williams Paint (Federal Road), Father Bob Weiss, St Rose Catholic Church, Eunice Laverty at Bagel Deli & Delight, Red Baron Carpet, St Rose Youth Group, Anne Condren and the National Charity League-Nutmeg Chapter, and Kirrane Painting.
We thank God for holding back the rain, supplying a bountiful group of volunteers, and the opportunity to help those in our community who were ...at our Gate.
Sincerely,
Charlie Nostrand
