Stella Philadelphia Show

PHILADELPHIA, PENN. -- Shoppers and collectors alike packed the Philadelphia

Convention Center for Stella Show Management Company's 4th annual Philadelphia

Winter Antiques Show on December 5-6. The show opened with a benefit preview

for the Delaware Valley Transplant Program.

When the show opened to the public on Saturday at 11 am, the line spread the

two-block length of the building. Hundreds of buyers purchased everything from

small objects for gifts and personal collections to furniture. With most

dealers reporting sales of between $3,000 and $10,000, the show is being

viewed as a success.

John Neylon of Hampton Antiques, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and his partner Alfred

Cali, thought it was "a great show" and told show manager Leanne Stella they

wanted a double booth next time. Marvin Baer of New Milford, N.J., a

specialist in Orientalia, called the show "spectacular."

Ed and Betty Koren of Bridges Over Time, Walden, N.Y., said "It's a great

show, we sold a lot of good furniture including a Biedermeier chest and an

Eighteenth Century English slat-front desk." Rita Margolis of Brockton, Mass.

exclaimed, "We sold more here than we do at the Triple Pier."

In addition to the nearly 300 antiques dealers, the show offered appraisals by

Stephen van Cline of van Cline & Davenport at $5 per item, to benefit the

transplant program.

Jolynn Thomas and Mary Beth Temple demonstrated how to care for vintage

textiles. They covered cleaning and storing tips, what to buy and what not to

buy, as well as historical facts. They also had conservation supplies

available.

Another seminar was given by Karen J. Adler of Gems of the Past on the proper

care of fine jewelry, how to properly preserve gems for future generations,

and cleaning and storage of pearls, diamonds, gems, gold, silver and platinum

jewelry.

The next Philadelphia Winter Antiques Show is on December 4-5 at the

Pennsylvania Convention Center. For more information, 212/255-0020.
