Respect For Taxpayers, Parents,

And Students

To the Editor:

I have been following the stories and letters about the Board of Education, particularly as it relates to special education students and services. While I understand that there needs to be a balance with regard to respecting taxpayer funds with providing services, one would hope that that would not undermine respect for those taxpayers, in this case specifically parents of students and students themselves.

I am increasingly appalled by behavior of the members of some on the board as regards interactions with parents and treatment of some of these students. And my reaction is just from reading your newspaper. What did the superintendent intend to communicate when she said that some parents were “...just bitter because they lost at the state level.” Does the superintendent think they are clinging to guns and bibles, too? This expression of communication is shameful and embarrassing to the people of your town. I intend to share this situation with our community here so that we might not experience the same heady power grab that appears to be taking place in Newtown. Good luck parents. ...I mean taxpayers.
