Crash Leads To Alleged Gun Threat
Police say a wreck that occurred at approximately 9:11 pm on November 11 resulted in the subsequent arrest of the driverâs father for allegedly threatening to shoot a tow truck driver who delivered the vehicle back to the ownerâs home.
According to police, Nicholas Cerreta, 23, of Leopard Drive in Sandy Hook was traveling southbound on Hanover Road Wednesday evening, when he reported a deer came into he roadway forcing him to take evasive action.
This resulted in the 2004 Ford Mustang climbing the north embankment, striking several large boulders and coming back to rest in the travel portion of the roadway. Hook & Ladder and Newtown Ambulance personnel responded along with police, and the driver was treated at the scene for abrasions.
When a driver from Hilarioâs delivered the totaled vehicle back to the residence at about 11 pm, police say a verbal altercation escalated over the towing charge.
Police say the driverâs father, Charles Cerreta, 59, allegedly grabbed the tow truck driver and threatened to shoot him over the disputed cost of the tow. Police reported, however, that no gun was displayed or found during the investigation.
The elder Mr Cerreta was charged with threatening and breach of peace before being released on a promise to appear in court November 24. The accident is under investigation.
