Itâs Never Too Early To Think About Prom Season

Prom night may still be months away, but fashionistas know that itâs never too early to start planning for a big event.
With that in mind, members of the Newtown High School Peer Leadership group are organizing a Pre-Prom Fashion Show that will offer ideas for the 2006 prom season.
The show, featuring NHS juniors and seniors as models, will be Saturday, January 21, beginning at 7:30 pm. It will be in the auditorium of Newtown High School, at 12 Berkshire Road.
Admission is $5, and all proceeds will be donated to Kevinâs Community Center.
Stylewatchers tend to look at celebrities to see what the younger crowd will be wearing in the upcoming season. For prom season, many of the same gowns and styles that celebs wore during the most recent Emmy Awards will show up at high school formals.
According to prom-night.com, which offer suggestions and referrals for high school students, activities advisors and homecoming planners, âclassic looks stole the show ⦠[and] glamour aboundedâ during the 57th annual awards ceremony back in September.
âFor prom season this year, weâre seeing more things with straps. Fewer designers are pushing the strapless look,â Melanie Mattegat, the owner of Julie Allen Bridals, said this week. âWeâre also seeing things that are a little bit more beaded.â
Will Newtown High Schoolâs students follow suit? Weâll know for sure in May, but some of the local clothiers are helping students with suggestions for this yearâs big night.
Fashions for the January 21 event at NHS will be supplied by Julie Allen Bridals and Styles of Newtown, and Cache and Savvy in Danbury. Gentlemen wonât be left out of the picture; Savvy will be offering tuxedo suggestions.
